To some, these will be well known as the solution to an age old problem, when using micro rigid endoscopes - which is they break very easily!
This is the solution, they appear identical, however the optical image is transmitted via a quartz bundle, of upto 12,000 fibres, which are only a few microns in diameter. This then allows the endoscope image shaft to tollerate bending, way beyond that of a glass rod rigid endoscope.
With diameters as small as 0.6mm and lengths upto 3000mm, they allow even the most challenging components to be inspected - robustly and regularly.
